June 16th of 2020, Barcelona Cruise Port successfully completed the manoeuvring test and entrance through the Barcelona North port for Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady. Scarlet Lady is the biggest ship docking at the World Trade Centre’s Terminal South in the history of the port of Barcelona, with a length overall (LOA) of 277 meters.
The successful testing will allow Virgin Voyages to start their homeport operations in May 2022 from Barcelona for their western Mediterranean itineraries.
Javier Rodriguez, Barcelona Cruise Port General Manager said; “After 2 years of hard work with Virgin Voyages management, hosting different simulations and analyses of these testing manoeuvres in coordination with Barcelona pilots, the harbour master, and Port Authority, what has been achieved is a great success. Not only for our company but also for the port itself, accommodating the largest ship at this pier by extending the previous LOA limitations is most definitely a milestone. We are confident Virgin Voyages will have successful homeporting operations starting as of May 2022 in our port”.
